Some pictures of my progress. The first one is the head and handle roughed out and sitting next to mine.

Next one is just a close up.

This next one shows a hunk of Oak similar to the one the above pieces came from.

The handle before being worked by hand.

And finally, the place where it all happens.

So, that is all you get for photos, cuz anything beyond what's been done will be a surprise. I will take pics of it when it's done, but won't post them until Mama gets it.

I come from carpenter/builder stock, got generations of sawdust in my veins. My grandfather was 30 feet in the air roofing his house in his mid 70's, if I recall right. And about the "shop", you should have seen it about 5 hours earlier.

By the way, my aunt is a carpenter, I got a hell of a lot of respect for a woman who can swing a 20oz framing hammer or run a table saw. with the hoohaas to do it herself.

Thanks for the compliments Ladies, I'll get used to them eventually.

I know, I can only go so long before I need to do some woodworking, smell fresh cut wood.

My dad did some very bad things in his life that hurt a lot of people but I choose to remember the good qualities that he instilled in me - my love for animals and nature and my ability to work with my hands and be creative. When I was a little girl, I spent many hours with him in his work shop, pounding nails into scraps of wood. I don't remember actually making anything, just sitting on the floor in front of the wood stove pounding nails into scraps of wood. I was proud as hell when I'd get one in straight, because he also taught me how to pull a bent nail out, straighten it and use it again! LOL!!!

I actually did the same thing with my grandfather ( the only thing my father was good at was drinking and ignoring his two sons), he always had scraps laying around and nails of every size you can imagine. One of the houses he built and lived in had a pond he put in the front yard. My brother and I would nail a couple hunks of wood together, rig up some sails with whatever was handy and float 'em in the pond.
