it's a "man purse" that hangs in front, on a belt, around the waist. Part of an official kilt outfit.

And that is exactly how I was going to describe it. Man purse...

Man purse...hmmm....skirts and pocketbooks - so much for dignity, eh?

Ya know how those Celts are-- rather tippy-toed and light in the foot sometimes, eh?

ROTFLMBO!!!! Sounds sort of like a "hip sack" - isn't that what they called them? Made out of some kind of nylon stuff on as belt. Went out of style years ago but I still have one that I use when I sell at fleas - now I will call it my Sporran - if that's okay to borrow the term??

You're thinking of fanny packs that were all the rage some time back. As far as you borrowing the term, feel free. I doubt you'll find a Scotsman that will complain too much, it certainly won't be me. Now, the Pict in me.....

As far as the dignity end of it goes, a Sporran is tame compared to the dignity hit you take in a Kilt while a strong gust of wind blows through.

I was waiting to either River or Jeffrey to post a pic or a link to a pic of one. I could have but I would be accused of being a "sufferable klnow-it-all" as I am affectionately (?) called by some other people I know.

I used to work at a Gaelic Import store and we sold custom, made-to-order, direct from Scotland, kilts and all accessories. I used to fight with the owner (a gay man) over who was going to get to measure for the kilt-- he kept insisting that we didn't need to measure the inseam and I kept insisting that *I* did need to measure the inseam. ;)

Fanny Pack! That's it!! LOL!!!

Loved the picture of the Sporran - it is very similar to the antique purses that I collect. I'll have to keep my eyes open and maybe I will run across an actual Sporran that someone lists as a purse! That would be cool - an "antique Man Purse"!!
